Cornell Johnson is the close-knit, collaborative one — a small, residential program on Cornell’s gorgeous Ithaca campus (with a one-year option down at Cornell Tech in NYC). Johnson has released its 2026–2027 deadlines AND essays, so you’ve got everything you need to get going.

Cornell Johnson Application Deadlines (2026–2027)

Round Application Deadline Decision Date

Johnson also offers a Consortium Early deadline of October 15, 2026 for Consortium applicants. As always, Round 3 is the toughest path — aim for Round 1 or Round 2 if you can be ready.

Who Actually Gets In: The Cornell Johnson Class Profile

Johnson runs a small, tight cohort. A snapshot of a recent entering class (Class of 2027):

  • Class size: ~276 students
  • Median GMAT: 710
  • Median undergraduate GPA: 3.4
  • Average work experience: ~5.3 years
  • Women: 38% · International: 42% (34 countries)

Cornell weighs the GRE equally with the GMAT (and doesn’t report a separate GRE figure), and it doesn’t publish an official acceptance rate (historical estimates land around ~28–35%). With a class this small, fit matters enormously — Johnson can’t take everyone with a great score.

What Cornell Johnson Is Actually Looking For

Johnson is upfront about what it weighs: strong academics, a track record of professional accomplishment, competitive test scores — and, crucially, FIT. In its own words, it wants:

  • Thoughtful essays that show your fit and how you’ll contribute as a community member.
  • A clear ability to articulate your career goals and the role Johnson will play in getting you there.
  • A genuine desire to make a positive impact.

The through-line: Johnson is a “live and learn together” residential community, so it wants people who’ll actively make that community better — not just take from it.

Johnson’s 2026–2027 Essays

Confirmed for this cycle:

  • Goals Statement (350 words): two sentence-completions — your immediate post-MBA goal (role / company / industry) and your 5–10 year goal — plus a short explanation of how you’ll use Johnson’s resources to get there.
  • Choose ONE (350 words): the Impact Essay (“How do you intend to make a meaningful impact on the Johnson community?”) OR the “Table of Contents” essay (create the table of contents for the book of your life story).
  • Optional (350 words): for reapplicants or to clarify anything in your application.

The Goals Statement rewards SPECIFICITY — name the role, the company, the industry; vague goals sink here. And whichever Option 2 you pick, it’s really testing the same thing: are you someone who’ll add to Johnson’s tight community? (How to mine the right stories — and pick the right Option 2 for YOU — is exactly what ApplicantLab helps with.)

What to Do Right Now

Now that the dates AND essays are set, the clock is ticking — and the smartest applicants spend their time on what actually takes a while to get right:

  1. Start the self-reflection. The best essays can’t be crammed — begin brainstorming the experiences that genuinely shaped you.
  2. Fix your résumé first. It matters more than most applicants think, and your work résumé is NOT your MBA résumé.
  3. Line up your recommenders. Nobody writes a great recommendation letter in 48 hours.
  4. Finish your testing. Get the GMAT/GRE off your plate so it isn’t eating into essay time later.

You Don’t Have to Do This Alone

Look — the internet is full of conflicting advice (and consultants who’ll charge you $5,000–$15,000 to tell you things a Harvard MBA could tell you for a tiny fraction of that). ApplicantLab gives you that same caliber of guidance — school-specific essay strategy, story-mining, résumé reality checks — for $349 for the whole year, unlimited schools.

New around here? I’m an HBS graduate and a proud member (and former Board Member) of AIGAC. I considered opening a high-end boutique admissions consulting firm, but I wanted to make high-quality admissions advice accessible to all, so I “scaled myself” by creating ApplicantLab. ApplicantLab provides the SAME advice as high-end consultants at a much more affordable price. Read our rave reviews on GMATClub, and check out our free trial (no credit card required) today!
